Nestled along the stunning Tyrrhenian coastline of Southern Italy, Tropea stands as a jewel of Calabria. Known affectionately as "the pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea," this picturesque town captivates visitors with its breathtaking cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and a rich tapestry of history.
Riaci Bay is one of the most celebrated beaches in Calabria, owing to the landscape dominated by high limestone cliffs and the Scoglio Grande, which emerges from the waters very close to the shore. White sand, crystal clear sea, and seabed for exploration with fins and masks. Riaci Bay is located in Santa Domenica di Ricadi and takes its name from the Greek word "ruachione," meaning rushing torrent.

The rocky settlement, also called "Grotte," covers an area of about 3,000 square meters. It consists of dozens of rock-hewn units, partly excavated in the rock and partly built for residential use, as shelters for domestic animals, for the production of wine and lime, and for the storage of grain. The Caves of Zungri are immersed in a magical and fascinating natural environment.
This sanctuary lies on a sandstone cliff, and its origins date back to the 4th century AD, built by Basilian monks seeking a place to rest and pray. It is considered a privileged place of devotion and pilgrimage, given its importance for all Tropeans, not only for the cult of the Virgin of the Island. Accessing the Sanctuary is only possible via a flight of steps carved into the tufa rock. Its highest point also offers an extraordinary view of the sea and the beauty of the Coast. Inside the Sanctuary, there is a small museum housing artifacts found here over time.

One of the traditional Tropean dishes is pasta with breadcrumbs called 'ammuicata' in dialect. According to Tropean tradition, ammuicata has a variant with the addition of sardines; this change is shared with the Sicilians, who claim the typicality of the all-island dish.

I Tri da Cruci is a popular festival that opens the summer season in Tropea. Its roots are ancient and religious, celebrated every year on the 3rd of May and lasting for 3 days. During this festival, the heroic gestures of Captain Gaspare Toraldo and his countrymen in the Battle of Lepanto in 1571 against the Ottoman armies are commemorated. The celebrations in and around the 'Borgo' are heralded by the festive roll of drums, multicolored flags, balconies decorated with drapes and floral garlands, and in recent decades, the addition of the 'dance of the giants' Mata and Grifone.
